MR26A FrankenTenna The cheesiest quickest "project" yet. You have the great MR26A for hearing all those X10 remotes. But it doesn't hear so well. Could it be that rat tail of a wire they call an antenna? I'll bet you have a TM751 around though. That's the reciever that perhaps came with your firecracker or other kit, the one housecode reciever. Gee, that has a swell antenna! So lo and behold, the unholy coupling of these devices, FrankenTenna!
I gutted the TM751 and left only the antenna. Then stripped the wire and wedged it inbetween the antenna bottom bad and plastic. I really works well believe it or not! Why did I gut a perfectly good TM751? Well for one thing, it's not very useful now, even as an extra appliance switch I really didn't need one. And the reason for keeping the case is that the antenna has this flat washer bottom and it's hard to mount differently. If it had standard threads I would have just scarfed the antenna. I'll probably make something a lot better and less ugly, but this one will get you by....
